Study in Canada

Eligible students may be allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week during regular semesters, and full-time during semester breaks.
Studying in Canada can also open the door to staying in Canada permanently after graduation and obtaining eligible work experience in Canada. Post Graduate Work Permit
Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) allows students with a valid study permit who have graduated from an eligible Designated Learning Institution (DLI); to apply for an open work permit. The work permit is LMIA-exempt with the exemption code being C43 in accordance to section 205(c)(ii) of IRPR. There are several criteria that must be met.
Students must have a valid study permit to apply and have 180 days from completion of their program; i.e. obtaining final marks. Furthermore, the student must have been studying continuously full-time (with exception of final semester) in Canada at an eligible DLI in a study program that is at least 8 months in duration and leads to a degree, diploma or certificate. Not all DLI’s are eligible for PGWPP.
Students who have applied for a PGWP can work while awaiting their PGWP in accordance with section 186(w) of IRPR. And any work experience they gain in NOC 0,A,B will help them qualify for permanent residence in Canada through Canadian Experience Class.
The PGWP is valid for a minimum of 8 month to maximum of 2 years depending on the length of study program. For programs that are 8 months to less than 2 years, the PGWP will be valid for the same length as the program and will never be longer than that. For study programs longer than 2 years, PGWP may be issued for up to 3 years. Students must ensure that their passport is valid for the entire length of PGWP.
The student is not eligible for PGWP if they had previously received one, studied English or French as a second language, took general interest or self-improvement courses, participated in the Government of Canada Awards Program funded by Global Affairs Canada, had funding from Global Affairs Canada with the exception of “Study in Canada scholarship”, got the Equal Opportunity Scholarship, Canada-Chile, participated in the Canada-China Scholars’ Exchanges Program, participated in the Organization of American States Fellowships Program, completed the majority of a study program by distance learning (online courses, e-learning or correspondence), completed a study program at a non-Canadian institution located in Canada.
